I had the amazing opportunity to create 3D flags for all 32 teams in the NFL, these flags were used to create weekly matchups that could be displayed across the NFL Networks Inglewood office. In addition these assets could be used by other designers across the network to create graphics for various properties, shows and applications.
Photos of the flag matchups on screens across the network office, the macro details really stand out on the large screens and feel tangible as if you could reach out and touch the textures.
I wanted to add more fine detail to the close up renders of the flag. I decided to render stray fibers across the flag so as they get caught in the light they add that macro detail.
These matchup graphics were setup in a After Effects toolkit that would reference the upcoming weekly schedule and automatically render out over 200 matchups for the season.
I created a flag simulation using the cloth tools in Cinema 4D, taking the time to art direct the amount of wrinkles, ripples and motion of the flag.
I created a Redshift material featuring all 32 team logos, which can be changed through a user data node linked to switch nodes. This allows you to easily switch between the logos and modify the overall texture within a single node tree.
